Where do you ship?
We ship within the United Kingdom only, including Northern Ireland.
Are your hoods made to order?
Yes. Most Yard Cloth pieces are made to order in our English workshop.
This approach reduces waste, avoids overproduction and allows us to work slowly and carefully.
How long will my order take?
Your Scout piece will be made to order and dispatched in time for Christmas, and once we reach our making capacity for the season we’ll update the website to show that any subsequent orders will be delivered in January.
Will my Scout hood fit over hair, headphones or layers?
The cut is intentionally flexible, but not oversized.
It fits comfortably over hair left down, plaits, and low-volume styles.
It will not sit neatly over high buns or large updos.
It fits over thin beanies, but thicker knit hats may feel bulky underneath.
Slim, on-ear or in-ear headphones fit well; larger over-ear headphones are best worn over the hood.
Our product images show how the hood behaves over natural volume.
How do I wear it when the hood is down?
When lowered, the Scout hoods rest softly at the nape or can be tied like a loose neckerchief.
They fold away easily into a bag or pocket when not needed.
What’s the difference between the Scout Hoods, the Scout Skins and the Scout Shells?
The Scout Hood is our reversible two-layer design with boiled wool for warmth and weatherproofed cotton for protection, while the Scout Skins are single-layer boiled wool hoods with an internal facing for light, breathable everyday wear, and the Scout Shell is the unlined weatherproof cotton version -a pared-back, rain-ready layer for milder days and sudden downpours.
Are your pieces plastic-free?
Our hoods are made from natural fibres — wool, cotton cambric and waxed cotton — with no synthetic blends used in the garment itself.
The only exception is the recycled polyester care label, chosen for durability and legibility.
All packaging is plastic-free.
What is the difference between the oilskin and the cotton cambric?
Cotton Cambric
- Finished in Britain by British Millerain
- Soft, matte, breathable and lightweight
- Water-resistant and washable at 30°C
- A practical everyday cloth with a natural handle
Silkwax Oilskin
- Traditional British waxed cotton
- Soft, slightly oily handle that mellows with wear
- Highly waxy at first, developing character over time
- Water-resistant: water beads but does not fully run off
- Not washable — spot clean only
In short: cambric is washable with a gentle drape, while oilskin is more traditional, structured and weather-hardy.
How do I care for my hood?
Each fabric type has its own care requirements.
You’ll find guidance on the product page and on your care label.
Can I return my order?
Yes — returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery if the item is unused and in original condition.
Return postage must be covered by the customer and sent via a tracked service.
Do you offer exchanges?
We don’t offer direct exchanges.
Please return your item for a refund and place a new order.
